Akber has more than 25 years’ experience in the investment industry. He is a Senior Director, Asset Management Group and has been with Al Rayan Investment (ARI) since 2009, with overall responsibility for the management of client portfolios.

Prior to ARI, Akber was at Deutsche Bank in London for more than 11 years, in European and emerging markets equities, holding senior research positions. Akber moved to Al Rayan Investment in Doha in early 2009 where he heads up the multi-award winning asset manager and manages institutional money investing in Shari’a-compliant GCC equities and global sukuk. Al Rayan Investment’s flagship, Al Rayan GCC Fund, is one of the largest Sharia-compliant GCC funds in the region. Al Rayan Qatar ETF (QATR) was listed in Doha in March 2018, now one of the world’s largest Islamic equity ETFs.

Akber graduated from University College London in Economics & History. A frequent commentator on international financial media, Akber has lived in Doha, Dubai, Frankfurt, Karachi and London.
